Teresa, a data-driven accountant who loves what she does and credits TOA Global with setting her on the path to career fulfilment, has been with the organization for more than two years. Motivated by her family relationships, Teresa is driven to continue redefining the person – and professional – that she is.
What led you to pursue a career in accounting and what has your journey looked like up to this point?
I pursued accounting because my greatest strengths have always been my keen attention to detail and analytical abilities. Organizing and analyzing piece-meal data excites me, and I enjoy every bit of it. It gives me satisfaction whenever I finish a clean workpaper or finalize a year-end output. Now, I can confidently say that I am on the right path on my journey in the accounting industry.
What do you enjoy most about your role with your client?
I mostly enjoy the autonomy. They trust my abilities and knowledge on the work that I do. They believe that I work efficiently with minimal supervision. This has taught me to apply the same learnings when mentoring and assisting juniors, which led to my early promotion as a Senior Accountant.
What valuable skills have you gained through the training programs at TOA Global and how have they helped you work towards your career goals? Have you had access to such career building before?
I had experience with the Ab² Institute of Accounting as a new hire. This gave me access to a wide range of training topics, both technical and non-technical, which have helped me from the onset of my career.
What are some of the facilities you have access to at work that you find to be the most valuable?
It’s ideal that we have our own suite in the office because there’s more privacy when working. I also enjoy hanging out with my colleagues in the breakout room/chill-out room during our break time.
What have your favorite experiences been with the client you’ve worked with?
So far, the most memorable experience that I have had with my client was their visit to our Clark office in July 2022. My manager joined the trip. This was particularly memorable because she told me the news of my promotion in person, and I got to celebrate with her after work.
In what ways do you feel you’ve grown since you became a TOA Global team member?
I can confidently say that I’ve grown professionally and personally since I started working with TOA Global and for my client. I’ve been afforded great learning opportunities, not just on the technical side of things, but also on highly valued soft skills.
What do you value the most about the team you work with?
I value the support that we provide for each other, especially the support from my juniors. They are a huge part of my success. Not only do I share my insights with them, but I also learn a lot from them.
What are your aspirations?
A few years from now, I see myself still loving the career that I’ve chosen. I’m working hard every day to enhance my skills so that someday I will be able to mentor my fellow accountants.
What motivates and inspires you?
My family keeps me going every day. They motivate me to become a better version of myself. It has always been my goal to someday pay back my parents for all the things that they have done to help me get to where I am today. I’m incredibly grateful when I see how happy they are for my career success.
What do you look forward to every day?
What gets me out of bed in the mornings is knowing that there is a whole new opportunity to be better than the person I was yesterday. I look forward to my morning coffee, to organizing my schedule/workflow for the day, to seeing my colleagues and friends in the office and knowing we have another day to work together and make an impact in our clients’ lives.
What do you do in your spare time?
I love spending time with my cats and reading during my spare time.
