Teams that “play together stay together”. From April 26 to June 27, 2025, about 1,200 TOA Global team members joined different sports events and Battle of the Houses challenges.
They all emerged as winners, whether or not they won the championships.
This year, our Sportsfest echoed the annual theme—Be the Difference. Participants competed in team sports like basketball, volleyball, bowling, Mobile Legends, badminton, and table tennis, as well as individual disciplines such as chess, Scrabble, billiards, and darts.
These events gave the participants many opportunities to bond, practice, and develop transferable skills such as teamwork, time management, and communicating about shared goals.
Job openings for accountants who want a better work-life balance
Just as the strongest athletes will tell you that rest is a must, at TOA Global you will be encouraged to cultivate interests outside of work.
Joining Sportsfest 2025 reminded Amiel Gacutan, a Client Relationship Manager, that he is capable of “sharing my passion with others who are also interested in learning about what I do outside of my corporate life.”
Competing in volleyball created opportunities for Amiel to share sports tips, a fun way to practice communicating and coaching.
Jerome Dizon, an Accounts Receivable Specialist also based in Tarlac, said that he and his basketball team were determined to win the championship.
“Even though what happened was not in our favor, it was still the best experience because of the camaraderie.”
Basketball was extra special for our TOA Global team in Cebu. This was the second consecutive year that the sportsfest included a women’s basketball event, with 21 players competing from only 13 players in the 2024 event.
One of the standouts was Nicole Yvette Baquir, a Generalist Accountant for a North American firm and former student leader, who was named the Most Valuable Player in basketball and won the women’s singles badminton championship as well.
“This was my first sportsfest in TOA Global, and it was memorable because I got the chance to lead as the captain of the basketball team and also had my singles matches in badminton” to prepare for.
Competing in Manila yet bound by shared interests to Nicole, our colleagues Floramie Carajay and Kimberly May Young made it to the Hall of Fame after winning the women’s badminton doubles championship for the third year in a row.
“Learning about teamwork and the need to trust your partner” were the most valuable lessons Floramie gained from the friendly competition. “If one is feeling a little down, the other should complement so you can both achieve your goals.”
