Teamwork, Wellbeing, and Belonging: Our 2026 Sportsfest

Accounting careers with balance are possible: you just need to choose the right organization to work with.

At TOA Global, 82 individuals and 14 teams received medals, trophies, and cash prizes in June for winning at least one of 10 events in our annual Sportsfest, one of our most popular employee engagement programs.

But the real wins went beyond those gains. They included a boost in overall wellbeing and confidence; the joys of sharing a meal and some laughs on game nights; and the commitments we made (to our teams and ourselves) to keep showing up.

“We appreciate everyone not just for showing up, but for dedicating time, effort, energy, compassion for each other, and genuinely upholding the true meaning of our sports festival,” said Deanna Marie Florendo, TOA Global’s Director of Event Experience and Programs.

“And that is building a community and making everybody feel that they truly belong.”

Employee engagement and wellbeing

Like all our employee engagement and wellbeing initiatives, this year’s Sportsfest-Level Up: Game On was purely voluntary.

As an organization that values work-life balance, we understand that not everyone may want to stay after the Australia-New Zealand shift ends at 4 PM (or come in earlier than 9 PM, when the North American shift begins) to play basketball, volleyball, or table tennis.

So, we value the fact that so many of our teammates in Cebu, Clark, Manila, and Tarlac consistently participate in the annual Sportsfest.

We know from years of organizing it that Sportsfest strengthens teamwork and improves wellbeing. It reminds us that beyond being talented accounting and finance practitioners, everyone we work with nurtures interests outside of work.

Whether it’s a fitness routine, an entrepreneurial or social advocacy project, or a creative pursuit, these interests are part of who they are—and something TOA Global supports.

Career development for accounting professionals

Before Joshua Santos won the chess championship in TOA Global Clark this year, he hadn’t played competitive chess in 3 years.

“I believed the fire had faded. But when I joined Sportsfest and faced many strong, competitive opponents, I realized the passion had never truly disappeared; it had only been waiting for the right moment to return. Every game reminded me that strategy isn’t just about remembering variations; it’s about rediscovering the passion to keep learning, adapting, and growing.”

Since 2013, TOA Global has connected more than 4,200 professionals, mainly in accounting and finance, with innovative accounting practices and other businesses in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States.

Our approach to career development for accounting professionals addresses both their learning and development—with training courses provided for each role—as well as the need for connection.

Connecting through employee engagement programs

The Sportsfest is one of many ways our employee engagement programs create opportunities for our team members to recharge, celebrate together, and simply enjoy the company they keep.

Cresilda Bondoc, a Procurement Senior Lead in our Corporate Team, recalls that she first signed up for Sportsfest in 2022 because her teammates’ energy “was contagious, and it inspired me to be part of something bigger than just work—and I’m truly glad I did.”

She has enjoyed badminton since she first picked up a racket in 2010 in Qatar. This year, Cres won a fifth consecutive Badminton Mixed Doubles championship, in tandem with our Marketing Manager Rani Amparo.

“Each game pushes me to improve, not just as a player but as a teammate…Sportsfest reminded me that I’m more capable than I often think. Sometimes, just trying, showing up, and being part of a team is already a big win—and that mindset makes all the difference.”

An accounting career path with growth opportunities

This year, four teams also emerged as champions and won prizes in our Battle of the Houses.

The Cebu Knights, Clark Mavericks, Manila Sentinels, and Remote Heroes put their problem-solving, teamwork, and hula-hooping skills to good use—and got to participate even if they hadn’t signed up for the sports competitions.

More than a few weeks of training, competition, and cheering each other on, the TOA Global Sportsfest reflects the culture we’re all building.

It’s a culture that rewards professional excellence and productivity yet also recognizes that people need to feel a sense of community. High-performing yet also highly empathetic.

Our growth opportunities in accounting are anchored on a learning and career development program that a registered training organization in Australia, the Ab2 Institute of Accounting, provides.
