For nearly 10 weeks from late April to July, TOA Global’s driven accountants enjoyed some friendly competition in their favorite sports. A total of 141 winners received awards when our League of TOA Legends sportsfest wrapped up on July 5 and 6.
Unless they’re mindful, accountants can spend most of their waking hours sitting in front of their desks.
Through a year-long Wellbeing Program and initiatives like the League of TOA Legends sportsfest, TOA Global supports our team members in making better choices for their health, such as by becoming more physically active.
Adults need at least 150 hours of moderate intensity exercise or physical activity each week, the World Health Organization has advised. Walking, active recreation, and play can lead to better heart and brain health, as well as reduce anxiety and depression.
What we gained from the sportsfest
Dareen Saco, from our Australia and New Zealand or day shift team in Cebu, joined the Mobile Legends event for the third year in a row. “Wanting to win isn’t always enough.
You must improve the necessary skillset. But while on the way to winning, don’t forget to enjoy every moment of the journey.”
“Aside from the fact that I am already a three-peat champion, another thing that I loved about joining this year’s sportsfest is that I got to befriend a lot of people.”
Stefany Cloue Malintad, who works as an accountant for a client in New Zealand, said that the competitions reminded her to value both self-confidence and teamwork.
“Never doubt yourself. The first person to have faith in your potential and abilities should be you. Next, teamwork is necessary… Each team member is as vital as the others.”
Finding the right balance
This year, TOA Global’s People Experience Team organized competitions in nine sports disciplines. We didn’t have gymnastics. Our League of TOA Legends had wrapped up by the time Carlos Yulo won two historic gold medals.
We did have every other discipline that a sports-minded young Filipino could choose from: badminton, basketball, billiards (in TOA Global Clark), bowling, chess, Mobile Legends, Scrabble, table tennis, and volleyball.
Precious Joy Castillo from our North American team in Tarlac joined the bowling event and found it “an exhilarating blend of competitive spirit and camaraderie.”
“It brought together teams from the Clark and Tarlac sites. Participants had the opportunity to connect with others outside of their usual circles, forging new friendships and strengthening existing bonds. Thank you to all the organizers and TOA Global. You provided a platform for friendly competition and also created lasting memories for all who attended.”
Catherine Gothong, who also joined the bowling event in Cebu, had this to share: “My greatest takeaway is that one can have fun and at the same time contribute to the team without being pressured. Most of the time, people get too caught up in winning and missing the fun that the event brings. While some would have so much fun and forget that not everything in a game is about leisure. This year’s bowling event has led me to do both, and I am so happy God heard my prayer of not having all the shots go to the gutter.”
