Kadesh Mae Montejo has been a TOA Global team member for six years and is grateful for the growth opportunities that she’s been afforded in her role as she works towards her CMA certification. One of Kadesh’s favourite aspects of her work is the learning opportunities the job constantly offers her.
What led you to pursue a career in accounting and what has your journey looked like up to this point?
When I started college, I was studying towards a BS in Tourism, but I shifted to a BS in Accountancy because I enjoyed and did well in my Fundamentals of Accounting class. I then realised that a career in finance and accounting is highly flexible.
The journey has been challenging, but not intimidating. Also, the life of an accountant requires lifelong learning, so every day is a learning process and there is always room for growth.
What do you enjoy most about your role with your client?
My client’s company is growing so it gives me an opportunity to grow as well. “Exciting times ahead”, as my boss would say.
What valuable skills have you gained through the training programs at TOA Global and how have they helped you work towards your career goals? Have you had access to such career-building before?
I learned how to collaborate and compromise in order to manage conflicts. I also improved my critical thinking skills. Through the CMA Program by Ab2, I get to advance my accounting and financial management skills.
What are some of the facilities you have access to at work that you find to be the most valuable?
The clinic, because health is my top priority. I also frequent the breakout room to play foosball and the chill-out room to recharge. I also like that we have free Wi-Fi.
What have your favourite experiences been with the client you’ve worked with?
- We serve a U.S. client, but we work the morning shift.
- I get to spend Christmas and New Year with my family in their province every year.
- We were given the option to either return to the office or to transfer to a remote set up, but I chose the former anyway.
- Our client never fails to extend their appreciation to the team.
- They are accommodating of our time-off requests.
In what ways do you feel you’ve grown since you became a TOA Global team member?
I started as a one-person team and now there are four of us. While our team is growing, personally I have also grown from being an individual contributor to training people. This has made me understand that my success hinges on the success of my team.
What do you value the most about the team you work with?
I value their hard work, reliability and, most importantly, the fun we have.
What are your aspirations?
My short-term goal is to pass the CMA Exam.
What motivates and inspires you?
I am motivated by the need to add value and learn continuously.
What do you look forward to every day?
Aside from ticking off my to-do list, I look forward to having a good laugh and connecting with my teammates.
What do you do in your spare time?
I binge-watch Netflix, spend time with friends, travel, and try new restaurants.
