At TOA Global, we are passionate about helping professionals thrive in their careers, businesses, and communities. With a global presence spanning Australia, New Zealand, North America, the Philippines, South Africa, and South America, we empower industry-leading professionals by providing world-class opportunities and support.
As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you are the technical heartbeat of the Manufacturing Division’s Design and Engineering team. This role is built for a seasoned expert who understands that a switchboard is more than just an enclosure—it is the central nervous system of an electrical installation. You will be responsible for translating complex project specifications into high-precision circuit diagrams and general arrangements that power major Australian infrastructure.
Your Impact
Lead Technical Designer: Take full ownership of designing intricate circuit diagrams and switchboard general arrangements using AutoCAD. You will produce comprehensive layouts with minimal supervision, ensuring every millimeter of the design is optimized for manufacturing and field performance.
Standards & Compliance Authority: Ensure all design outputs strictly adhere to AS/NZS 61439.1 (or IEC equivalents), Statutory, Regulatory, and project-specific requirements. You will be the guardian of compliance, ensuring that every board leaving the facility is safe, functional, and audit ready.
Stakeholder Bridge: Liaise with all relevant stakeholders—from onshore engineers to local production teams—to ensure design requirements are clearly communicated, understood, and executed. You act as the technical anchor that keeps the project lifecycle moving smoothly.
Innovation & Component Integration: Apply your deep knowledge of supplier equipment from global leaders like Siemens, ABB, Schneider, and NHP. You will select and integrate motor control systems, power distribution components, and control logic into robust electrical solutions.
Systems & Safety Advocate: Actively champion the client’s Safety, Quality, and Environmental System requirements, bringing a positive, proactive attitude to maintaining high standards within the Manufacturing Division.
What You Bring
The Experience: Minimum 5 years of local experience in electrical drafting, with a specific focus on the switchboard manufacturing industry. You have a proven track record of moving from technical execution to a senior, self-directed role.
Technical Mastery: Expert proficiency in AutoCAD (minimum 3 years) and Microsoft Office. You possess a "hands-on" understanding of electrical switchboards, control systems, and power distribution installations.
The Credentials: Tertiary Engineering qualification or a relevant trade certificate. You must have a working knowledge of the new Australian Standard specification AS61439.
Industry Savvy: Deep familiarity with the manufacturing process, from sheet metal constraints to busbar configurations and thermal management within enclosures.
Leadership Qualities: You possess leadership aspirations and the ability to mentor junior drafters. You are a self-motivated professional who thrives in a team environment and can communicate effectively across all levels of an organization.
